Let’s face it: we can’t all afford the best and most expensive dog food for our dogs. Not if you have 6 dogs in the family like we do. However, you don’t have to resort to cheap, unhealthy brands of dog food either. There are plenty of affordable mid-range dry dog food brands that haven’t really gotten the attention they deserve, and Pronature Holistic is one of them.
- Oceanic white fish
- chicken meal
- wild rice
- brown rice
- pearled barley
- oat groats
- dried potato products
- chicken fat
- whole flaxseed
- 18% protein, 10% fat (Complete ingredient list + guaranteed analysis)
The first 2 ingredients in this dog food are meat products, which is a great sign, and the grains in the food are also quality whole grains. I would prefer to see less grain, but at just $24.99 (15 lb) you can’t get much better than this. Flaxseed is also a great source of Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids.
The Real Deal
The Pronature Holistic Senior dog food doesn’t smell very strongly, which is good since a dog food’s odor does affect the dog’s odor.
I’ve found the Pronature Holistic Senior dog food much better at maintaining my small dog’s weight, where previously Earthborn Holistic caused some weight fluctuations. It’s also fantastic for dogs with sensitive skin as my dog’s skin problems have improved. However, the protein and fat content could be insufficient for larger breeds.
How much I feed: 1⅓ cup/day + 1tbsp canned dog food (my Mal-Shi small mixed breed isn’t quite senior yet, but she’s less active)
What do you think? I honestly have not found a better quality dry dog food at $24.99 for a 15 lb bag. If you know of one, please share it so I can try it out! However, the Pronature Holistic range is not easy to find in pet stores, so your best bet is Amazon.
